Minus 123 minutes is a "classic" rock guitar/bass/drums trio, noted for combining captivatingly funky energy with unique elements of jazz, blues and ethno music in their sound and shows.
Afro-American tradition spiced with Latin-American, African and even Asian influences. They consider themselves a 'jam band', relying on intuition.Their concerts are known to their fans as outbursts of improvisation, pure musical joy and ecstasy - lacking any form of contrievance.
Formed by the extremely talented singer/guitarist/songwriter Zdenek Bina, the band has during the years achieved a reputation as one of the absolutely best live acts in clubs and festivals in their domestic scene, despite singing in English.
They released their debut album "Shooba Dooba" in 1999, an album that took the Czech music scene by storm. The album received several of the top music prizes: the Newcomer of the Year award in the two most prestigious Czech music magazines - Rock & Pop and Rock Report - and in 1999 the Czech Grammy from the Akademie popularni hudby (Popular Music Academy, APH) for the Best new artist.
This achievement was all the more remarkable in that they got there without any affiliation or support from a major label, a point that reflects the independent and self-reliant spirit of -123 minutes. Since then, 'the Minutes' (as they like to be called) have hardly been able to keep up with increasing demand for their music and live shows.
With the rate of more than 100 gigs per year in the Czech Republic, they have also played at festivals during 2003/4 in Holland, Belgium, France, Poland, Slovakia, UK and USA.
In 2005 they signed with Humbug/Universal. Their fifth album "Mum" is still attracting a lot of interest abroad.
Currently in studio working on their sixth album on Universal.
